Gundagai Tigers will visit Harris Park on Saturday to play South City Bulls in Round 14 of the Group 9 First Grade competition.
In what will be a special day for the Bulls, who are celebrating their 2016 premiership victory against this weekend’s opponents, the Tigers will be out to rediscover some of their best form with only three rounds left until finals time.
Gundagai coach Hayden Ashcroft has made it clear that the Tigers’ performances of late have left a lot to be desired, and that the side would work hard over the two weeks around the bye to ensure some of their persistent issues were ironed out.
A cornerstone of Gundagai’s 2026 season so far has been their defence, conceding just 177 points in their 13 games – an average of 13.6 per game.
Whilst building a rock solid defensive wall, the Tigers will be hoping for a bigger output in try scorers amongst their outside backs in the coming weeks.
Sailusi Temaka has crossed the line at a better rate than one try per game, scoring six from just five matches, only Meli Drau (seven tries) ahead of him.
James Morgan has had a quiet season by his own standards, crossing six times also, with hardworking hooker Wilson Hamblin next on the Tigers’ top scorers list with five.
Gundagai ran out convincing 42 points to 12 winners last time the two sides met, and with Temora on equal competition points with the Tigers, a similar performance will ensure the minor premiership race remains a close contest.
Gundagai finish the season with games against teams sitting either side of them on the season ladder, making this weekend’s result against the Bulls all the more significant.
