Gundagai Tigers have played to a stalemate on Saturday with Wagga Kangaroos 6 – 6 at Geohex Stadium.
With only one try between the two in Wagga’s Matthew Murphy and Gundagai’s Tyron Gorman, the wet and muddy conditions affected both teams’ performance heavily.
The competition is tight at the top of the ladder this year, meaning every result matters for Gundagai and coach Hayden Ashcroft thinks better performances are needed if the Tigers want to go all the way.
“We knew the Roos were going to be up for it, and we were a little bit flat. We lacked a bit of energy and credit to them, but they were really good. It was just a tough game and tough conditions,” he said.
“There were some different results across the board, but I’ve been big on that from the start, that if you don’t turn up each week, you get beaten, and that shows it in Brothers winning as well.
“The form they show and the game they play isn’t reflected in the Roos scores themselves in each game. I think they’re going to really turn things around at the back end of this season. We need to be better.
“I can take some positives out of it. We had Royce Tout out as well, but that’s certainly no excuse, and we had some good inclusions there. Luffy stepped up, and we were caught flat. Roos played well.
“We have got Cootamundra on Sunday, which will be another big game. Over the next 4 weeks, it’s not going to stop. We need to be on and turn up each week. I’m hoping we can improve, and hopefully the weather holds out, and we can play our brand of football.”
The Tigers play the Coota Bulldogs this Sunday at ANZAC Park. The Tigers are looking to get a good crowd down there for a solid game of footy.
