Offering in-home care and support including transport (wheelchair accessible), meal preparation, Domestic Assistance and Social Support, Michelle “Shell” Bell says working in aged care has always been a passion of hers.
“I have always been one to care for others, even as the youngest child,” she says.
“I’ve always been the organiser of the family and the one that is there when needed.
“Aged care takes that to the next level [by being there] for caring for people when their families can’t necessarily be there all the time.”
A mother of three and the secretary of the Gundagai Adelong Junior Rugby League, Shell has been working in aged care for the past two years, however locals may also recognise her through her work with her husband in his mechanical business.
“Of course, this all keeps me busy, however, I’m used to the challenge, and the passion for caring keeps me going,” she says.
Shell’s Grandparents (Barbara and Cecil, of which BeeCee Care is named after) were placed into a nursing home, which she says they disliked.
Located interstate and with a young family of her own, Shell had been unable to assist. It’s this knowledge that drives her to provide exceptional service to the region.
“I like to think of my clients as family,” she says.
“I truly understand what it means to my clients and their loved ones to have someone there that cares and who can support them.
“This is not just a job for me.”
Out of every service she provides, Shell says her favourite part about her job is ensuring her clients feel comfortable in their presence to allow her to help assist them with their independence.
“[I also enjoy] getting to know the clients and hearing their stories,” she says.
Shell is a qualified independent support worker who provides specialised services in shopping, transport, meal preparation, domestic assistance and social outings.
Whether it is for once off or ongoing support, she says she is proud to be providing the essential service to Gundagai locals.
