March set to be a big one for the Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre

March is set to be a busy month for the Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre, with plans to celebrate Seniors Week, Harmony Day and International Women’s Day during March.
On Friday, 6 March, the Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre is hosting an International Women’s Day event at the Gundagai Sports Club and the theme for 2026 is ‘Balance the Scales’.

Peggy Elliott, Event Coordinator, encourages any women in the community to attend a great night out with the girls.
“It will be a nice two-course meal, and it is always a great night out. Everyone gets a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival. After the formalities have finished, we will have karaoke, and we had a great time last year,” said Peggy.

“Kate Warren, who is a local lady who grew up in Nangus, will be the event speaker for the evening. Kate works for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and is the Movement Disorder Clinical Nurse Specialist, and as part of her work, she sees a lot of clients over here who have Parkinson’s Disease.”

“Not only will Kate discuss her work as a Movement Disorder Nurse, but she will talk about her life and how she got to where she is today. Kate will also talk about women in the workplace and workplace equality. The theme of ‘Balance the Scales’ will tie in because balance is part of Parkinson’s and other movement disorders. Kate will also discuss the ‘balance’ of all the things that women must juggle every day in their daily lives,” explained Peggy.

Seniors Festival Week will also be celebrated from 2-15 March, and this year’s theme is ‘Live life in Colour’.
The event schedule, which is funded by both the NSW Government and Bendigo Bank, features a huge array of interesting and exciting activities that showcasemany different opportunities that the community offers.
“There will be a bus tour around town, as well as workshops in the library for tech and mobile support.  We will also have beeswax craft in the library, and aFinancial Information Services Officer from Services Australia will be providing an information session to provide free information, tools and resources to people regarding their current and future financial needs,” said Peggy.

“We will also have creative cooking for one and will be promoting a lot of other things around town for people to come and try, such as bowls, mahjong and yoga and covering the cost of a lot of these things for participants.”
“We will also have Lizzy Ann Art host an art session in the park on a Saturday morning, which ties into the Seniors Week theme of ‘Live Life in Colour’. We willcombine this session with the Gundagai Council markets on Saturday March 7,” said Peggy.
“There will also be a council morning tea which is always great and well attended.”

The Gundagai community will also be celebrating Harmony Day on March 21. Peggy said that plans are in the works to celebrate this day by incorporating and showcasing the different cultures within Gundagai.
If anyone in the community is interested in having a stall, being involved or coming along to Harmony Day and sharing your culture, please contact Peggy on 0403 305 402 or via pelliott@gncinc.org.au.

In May, the Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre will also be celebrating 50 years of service to the Gundagai community as well as Neighbourhood Centre’s Week. Plans are in the works for celebrations of this milestone.
