The community gathered with excitement this week at Gundagai Public School to celebrate the unveiling of a stunning new mural, a heartfelt gift from the Year 6 students.
This colourful artwork marks the culmination of a year-long fundraising journey filled with creativity, determination, and community spirit. Throughout the year, the Year 6 students organised a series of fundraising events that brought the school community together.
From delectable cake stalls to fun-filled snail races, and crafting and selling special Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards, the students worked tirelessly to raise funds for their gift. These activities not only helped finance the mural but also fostered teamwork and a strong sense of achievement among the students.
A special mention goes to The Criterion Hotel, whose generous support was instrumental in making the project a reality. The hotel kindly provided accommodation for the artist, allowing their creative work to be closely integrated with the school community throughout the mural’s development.
The mural itself is a vibrant reflection of the school’s spirit and celebrates the local environment, featuring the plants and animals commonly found in the area. This beautiful portrayal connects students and community members to the natural world around them and highlights the importance of preserving local biodiversity.
The finished mural now brightens the school grounds, serving as a lasting reminder of the Year 6 students’ hard work and dedication. It is a symbol of pride for the whole school and a testament to what can be achieved when students, staff, and local businesses come together.
