The U13S Blue Tigers went down to a solid Temora team over the weekend.
The U13S team lost a few senior players this weekend – but were adequately bolstered by some brave Sub Juniors who were playing against a team of 5 years their seniors.
Sub Junior players; Toby Nicholls, Aiden Shaw, Billy Ruskin-Rowe, Gus Hufton and George Ryan all had huge games for the Blue Tigers.
Temora got off to a flying start with Jack Lenehan and Gus Hufton removing both openers. The Blue Tigers kept the motto – ‘They miss, we’ll hit’ and with the willow being swung at the other end, all 8 wickets were bowled. The Blue Tigers’ bowling accuracy was amazing. Even the younger bowlers had their radar on as we bowled them out with still 12 overs to spare.
Will Lenehan, Gus Hufton and George Ryan all took two, with Jack and Lenehan and Aiden Shaw both taking one wicket each.
When it was the Blue Tigers’ turn to bat, Walt Murray and Gus Hufton gave the team a great start with a 28-run partnership. Walt Murray batted well until he retired with Gus Hufton enjoying some classy cover drives. We were super proud of the younger players going out to bat against some quality bowling – some with pace. Most are getting off the mark.
Once again, Archie Peterson, who is yet to be dismissed this season, held firm with some wonderful straight driving. Well done to the U13 Blue Tigers.
Junior cricket in the area looks to be in a good place with the quality we saw on Saturday.
The U16S Blue Tigers travelled to Harden to play against the Harden Hornets. The Blue Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first with Cooper Smith and Locky Eccleston opening the innings.
Unfortunately, early wickets fell, and when Cooper Smith was caught, the Blue Tigers were 3/16. A rock-solid partnership from Aiden Turnbull and John Elphick (23) steadied the ship. Aiden Turnbull finished on 53*
Handy cameos from AB Ryan (22) and Josh Swan (23) got the total to 9/163 off their 30 overs. Blue Tigers took the field to defend a reasonable score. With Carter Hood taking a wicket and effecting a run out, the Blue Tigers felt that they were heading in the right direction. However, Ethan Abnett took to the bowlers and retired on 50* in under 20 balls. Some top bowling from Josh Swan and Cooper Smith – both 3/3 off 3 overs, as well as Harry Peterson taking a wicket. Also catches Harry, Jack Peterson and AB Ryan.
When Ethan Abnett came back in from retirement, the Blue Tigers knew that they had to be on their toes. A great catch by Dane Smart sealed the win for the Blue Tigers – leaving them fourth on the ladder.
REP TEAMS
Congrats to Will Lenehan and AB Ryan for being selected in the South West Slopes Rep teams. Will, who has only started playing in the U13S comp this year, stood out in tryouts that occurred last Thursday. Will has been selected in the U12S team and will play with others from Young, Cootamundra, Harden and Temora. He will play his first game in the Derek Rogers Cup against Wagga this Sunday. AB Ryan has also been selected to represent the South West Slopes region in the U14S. AB has been playing some quality cricket for the U16S Blue Tigers. AB is heading to Harden on Sunday to play against Griffith in the Geoff Lawson Cup. Well done boys!
