The Gundagai CanAssist Can collection trailer, where CanAssist received over $7000 in funds raised across the Snake Gully Cup weekend through cash for cans, monetary donations and a market stall.
Snake Gully weekend resulted in a very successful fundraiser for Gundagai CanAssist, seeing the charity receive more than $7000 raised across the weekend, through the efforts of a market stall on Saturday at the Producer’s Markets raising more than $2,200, and cash for cans and money donations during the Snake Gully Cup celebrations on Friday and Saturday, raising a total of $5218.80 across the weekend.
Phil Smith from CanAssist Gundagai said they are so appreciative of the support over the weekend.
“It is a massive amount of money, and that amount is going to really help people so much, it is great when people go off on these initiatives to raise money for us, it takes the pressure off us just knowing we’ve got the funds there to help people.”
“We’ve now got the funds there to assist people and we don’t have to think about how we will raise funds to assist people, because these kind people have stepped forward over the weekend and came up with this fundraising ideas on such a busy weekend, it has made it so our pool is getting bigger,” said Phil.
“It just means we now don’t have to worry about where we are going to get our money from to help people.”
“It was such a busy weekend, with a heap of people in town. Sue, who is one of our branch members, decided that she would run a fundraiser for us, and she went above and beyond. She set up a stall at the markets with plants, gardening tools and baked goods, and we raised over $2,200. Sue organised it all herself and she just went the extra mile,” Phil said.
“Thanks to everyone who supported the stall, those who manned the stall and volunteers on the day, and all the customers who visited and bought raffle tickets and items for sale.”
“Thanks also to everyone who donated money or cash-a-cans. The team collected almost $4,000 on Friday and another $1,260 on Saturday, so a total of $5218.80 for the weekend.”
“It was a big effort at the Snake Gully races, in that it took a lot of hours to collect the cans at the races and they just relied on people helping to collect cans, it was such a massive job collecting thousands and thousands of cans,” Phil said.
“Cheers to Jared and Michelle Bell who are local branch members and their team of volunteers, for making it happen,” said Phil.
