Maxine Hayes (CWA) and Matt Day (Gundagai Shed) at last years Bake Off event.
Next week, CWA members will take on members of the Gundagai Shed for the RUOK Day Bake Off, where entrants will bake cakes in the following categories, and the best entries will win a trophy, all while raising awareness for RU OK Day.
Categories for entries for this year are different from last year and are retro, international, savoury, and weird, but in a good way.
Matt Day from The Gundagai Shed and Maxine Hayes from Gundagai CWA said both organisations are very excited for the event, as last year was a huge success.
“Last year was a total blast, we had so much fun, and if we can bring the same energy this year, it will be a great day,” said Matt.

“The event is a tribute to Lizzie, who originally started the event, and we are very proud and honoured to still be hosting it and having it back up and running again and just bringing that community together, under a different banner,” said Maxine.
“We’ve got lots of community banners in town, and bringing two of the entities in town that are very aware and trying to build community for different people within the town. “We love the event, it’s great, and we are looking forward to it,” Maxine said.
“It’s an important time to ask, are you ok, are we ok, am I ok? It does draw your attention to not only asking others, but it also helps you focus on your own mental health and wellbeing,” Matt said.

“We are also trying to focus on how we can keep the conversation going as people are going out the door, not just at the event. So, each year we grow and add a bit to the event,” Maxine said.
Not only are the two organisations encouraging people to attend, but they are also encouraging people to become members of the Shed and the CWA to enter the competition. Come and join in the fun from 11 am to 12 pm at the Gundagai Services Club on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
The event is held in accordance with RUOK Day, an annual awareness day that aims to encourage people to connect with people around them and to start a conversation with those who may be struggling. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener.
