The Gundagai Rodeo and Campdraft Club is bringing back the rodeo for 2025 on Saturday November 29 at the Gundagai Showgrounds.
Last week, Gundagai Rodeo and Campdraft Club held their AGM at Lott’s Hotel. Club President Dan Lindley said the event was well attended and that they had a few changes to the committee.
“Our President and Secretary both stepped down, so we now have a new President and Secretary. I am now the President, and Bec Shelton has come in as Secretary.”All other committee positions were filled.
“We had a really good attendance, we’ve got a good, young committee in there now with a few fresh faces, and things are looking up,” Dan said.
For the club, their focus for now is getting the 2025 rodeo up and running after having to cancel it last year due to inclement weather.
“Everything is sort of now just moving towards our rodeo for this year, because we had to cancel last year with the weather, so we are excited for this year. All our sponsors have been held over to this year, and now that the weather is starting to warm up again, we’re looking to get the info out there.”
“We are the last rodeo for the points year, so we are hoping to get some big cowboys down from the Tamworth area that are chasing points to make the finals,” Dan said.
“We will also have our campdraft in March, but the main event for now is the rodeo, which will be the last weekend in November on Saturday, 29 November at Gundagai Showground,” Dan said. “We will also be hosting the Southern Zone rodeo finals presentations at the end of the rodeo, too, for the first time.
“Because we are the last points rodeo for the points year, we will have the area’s presentation at our rodeo,” Dan said. “They usually do them later on, after the National finals, which is in January, but we just thought we would try it this year at our rodeo for about an hour afterwards,” Dan said.
“Rodeo is on its way back as a general sport at the moment, and so we are trying to capitalise on that, and try to get Gundagai down to support it,” Dan said.
