Members of the Gundagai Can Assist branch recently met for their 2025 Annual Business Meeting, 14 July 2025. Unfortunately, the team didn’t introduce any new branch members this year, but many current members are on board for another year, which is great to see.
President Phil Smith expressed his gratitude to committee members, specifically two of their executives, and the Gundagai community when presenting his annual report. He said, “A huge thank you to the local branch committee members for your support and commitment. Your support and suggestions make the executive members’ jobs so much easier. Supporting local cancer patients is always your priority, and your suggestions and decisions are always very helpful. A huge thank you to long-serving branch secretary Judy Pigram and treasurer Anne Tickner for the many years of dedication that you both have put into the smooth running of our branch.
“I would also like to thank our Facebook author, Michelle Hooper, for keeping the public updated with our branch events and stories and filling in as branch secretary when needed.
“The last year has been very busy again with assistance requests. It’s so good to have a committee wanting to go the extra mile to help people in our community when someone is given that terrible news. Thanks also to the generous community of Gundagai, who continually support our charity. There are so many community individuals, organisations, schools and sporting clubs who continually donate so we can support local cancer patients.
“Office bearers were elected at the ABM. Sadly, the Secretary position is still vacant. Two assistant secretaries will ensure monthly minutes are taken, and hopefully, someone new might join us later in the year. President – Phil Smith Vice President – Glenn McGeachie; Secretary – vacant; Assistant Secretaries – Michelle Hooper and Carol McGeachie; Treasurers – Julie Gulyas and Anne Tickner; Publicity Officer – Michelle Hooper.
In the past year, the local branch has assisted many patients with treatment costs, giving approximately $40,000 to help patients and their families. This is not possible without the generous support of local donations.
Gundagai Can Assist Branch hopes to welcome new faces in the coming years. With an ageing committee, we must have new members join, some willing to take on committee roles to ensure the longevity of such an important local organisation.

Only three key executive committee members are responsible for providing personalised support and assistance to local patients. Rest assured, the remaining committee members are unaware of patient names and specifics.
