Gundagai Tyre and Auto is open 24 hours a day over Easter, to provide any small auto repairs, tyres or parts to any locals or travellers that may need assistance.
Gundagai Tyre and Auto will be open the entire Easter period to help with anyone who has any auto needs during the busy period, as well as any travellers who may be travelling down the Hume Highway.
Yogesh Kumar, Owner, said the store will be open over the entire Easter weekend as well as doing after hours callouts, as there will be increased travellers on the Highway.
“Over Easter we are basically open 24 hours a day as we will do callouts after hours for anyone who may need emergency help.”
The small local business, which is currently just run by owner Yogesh, offers small auto repairs or parts such as car and truck tyres, small lawn-mower tyre and tube replacements, puncture repairs, trailer parts, batteries, coolants, fuses, globes, tail-lights, wiper blades and other essential small parts as well as jump starts, air pressure checks, brake fluid checks and battery health assessments.
Yogesh’s next project is to be able to offer mobile truck and car tyre repairs and replacements, to be able to assist people on the highway.
“I am currently setting up my big van to do mobile truck and car tyres so that I can assist people on the highway.”
The shop has been open for almost 2 years, and Yogesh says business has been going well and he has built up a supportive local clientele base in Gundagai.
“Before I opened in mid 2023, there wasn’t any tyre stores here as the previous one closed, so people had to drive to Tumut or Wagga for basic repairs,” Yogesh said, “people have been very receptive and supportive of the business.”
Yogesh moved to Gundagai from Adelaide in 2023 to start the business on his cousin’s recommendation. Studying to be a mechanic and having worked in a mechanic shop for 2 years, Yogesh took the leap to start the tyre and auto business in Gundagai.
“My cousin owns a motel in South Gundagai, and we were having a casual chat, and he mentioned that it is very hard to get a simple puncture repair done or anything in town, so he suggested I come and give it a go. I thought, well, I am already working as a mechanic and I know a fair bit, and so I decided to move here in July 2023, and it’s been going well since then,” Yogesh said.
Gundagai Tyre and Auto is located at 86 Sheridan Street, Gundagai and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
