The Gundagai CWA is celebrating 100 years since its inception

CWA members Carol Harris and Luisa Deacon at the Gundagai Community Expo last week.

It is set to be a big year for the Gundagai branch of the CWA, with the branch celebrating 100 years in April since the first CWA Branch started.

Jessica Butler, CWA Vice President, said the branch is asking for anyone in the community who may have any information, imagery or memorabilia about the Gundagai branch over the years, to please get in touch.

“So, we thought we would reach out to the community and ask if anyone has any in-formation that could help us to celebrate. If so, please get in touch.”

Kim Powell recently resigned from the branch, so Jessica Butler is the current Vice President.

“I have stepped up into more of a President position with the help of both our Secretary and Treasurer, who will be supporting and guiding me throughout this time,” Jessica said.

“I think it is important as a small community group that we have people coming in and taking on roles so that we can have different perspectives, I think the CWA is great and I wish I could get more people my age involved. Obviously being a younger person with a child, I understand, and most people my age work still or have other responsibilities.”

“It is good though, and it is a way that I can help out my local community,” Jessica said.

There is so much else in the pipeline for the CWA this year, some of which are still in the works, but they have confirmed they will be hosting the ‘RUOK Day Bake Off’ with the Men’s Shed again this year, which was a huge success last year, as well as an upcoming Easter stall at Woolworths on April 10.

“We will be doing a little bit of fundraising throughout this year with our Easter raffle being the start. If anyone would like to come and support us, we would love to see you,” Jessica said.

Some members from the CWA are also attending the annual Country Women’s Association conference in May, which will be held in Wagga this year.

“It is a time for all CWA branches within NSW and ACT to get together. We have the chance to create friendship with different branches as well as have our say regarding issues which the CWA can lobby to the Government too, in the hopes to hopefully make some changes, some of which are very interesting and important.”

Everyone is encouraged to come along and be part of the CWA. The branch meets at 10am at Mirrabooka on the third Thursday of every month.
