Can Assist Gundagai had a street stall last Thursday and Friday with raffle prizes, 100 club tickets, food and other goodies. The stall raised just over $4,000, which is terrific. This will support locals needing assistance.
Phil Smith, Gundagai Can Assist President, said, “The street stall was raising money for the Gundagai Branch of Can Assist, so we will be able to assist patients having cancer treatment.
“We have one street stall per year and prizes for raffles are donated generously by local businesses and individuals throughout the district.
“I’d like to thank all those people who assisted on the day and also to the people who donated the prizes, we had some committee members who went out and approached people for prizes, but we also had people who knew we were having a street stall and wanted to donate prizes. Also to the people who purchased tickets in the raffle and bought produce. Without them, we wouldn’t have raised any funds and then we wouldn’t have any funds to help people in the community.

“We are so grateful as a charity how the community gets behind us with wanting to volunteer and work on the street stall and also organise some prizes for our raffle.
“The people are just so kind to our organisation and I think it is because the money stays locally and there’s no on-going admin fee charges for us as an organisation.”
Every cent raised will in return go back in some way to a person that is needing assistance from Can Assist.
“We normally have our street stall around Easter, but all organisations apply for a street stall date through Council and ours was a bit earlier this year. Next year we will try and get it closer to Easter because we always try and have an Easter Egg raffle.
“We have such a wonderful community in Gundagai and having that street stall was just getting our name out in the community. People can see who’s there and ask questions if they wish.

“The street stall was on the Thursday and the Friday. On the Friday I attended the Seniors Expo and had a stall for Can Assist for anyone to ask questions. It was great exposure for Can Assist in the community and a lot of people don’t realise exactly what Can Assist does until they get in that situation.
“Almost everyone has been touched by cancer somehow and people know that the money we raise will go back into the community.
“People have been assisted by us or other branches around NSW.
“We have helped somebody and somebody is repaying. We never ask people to give us money.”
