The Coota Bulldogs proved to be tough opponents for the Gundagai Tigers, but not tough enough to get the win at Anzac Park on Sunday, 20 – 12.
Coach of the Tigers, Hayden Ashcroft, said, “It was a good win over Coota. We were a little bit scrappy, but we will take the win. It was a top-of-the-table clash too, so we knew they were going to be right up for it.
“There were a lot of numbers there. Coota travelled well too. Felt like there were a lot of numbers there, which was nice to see. The weather turned out nice, and it was a great day.
“Gundagai definitely get up for footy, especially at Anzac Park. Playing at home and having a decent crowd there is always exciting, and we try to play our best football at home.
“We were far from our best, but 2 points are 2 points. We will take them, and we’ll just keep moving forward.
“We were not completing sets. We struggled to complete sets. We went through some waves of good footy and allowed them too much opportunity to get back into the game, which we’ve been really good at through parts of the season and bad at too. It’s something we will continually work on, and Junee will be a tough challenge this week, so we’ll certainly have to work on that. Closing out sets and reading the game is important, especially if we want to get up over Junee.
“Junee are just coming off a win as well, so they will be pretty hungry for another one. The competition’s tight, looking at results across the week, every team’s out to win, and there’s only ever a small marginal difference between all the sides.
“If you don’t turn up each week, you get beaten.
“We had a win in 18s, which was nice to see, and reserve grade won as well. The girls are still struggling in the tag to come away with a win, but it was a good day for the club across the park.”
The Tigers will travel Junee at their home ground on Saturday 4th July at Laurie Daley Oval.
