The Coolac truck incident.
At 8.00pm on July 20, the Gundagai 313 Fire Station were called out to assist the Batlow 218 Fire and Rescue station alongside local RFS with a truck that had rolled north of Batlow.
Crews assisted by carrying out hazardous materials (HAZMAT) operations before the scene was handed over to Forestry NSW for truck salvage and roadway clean-up.
Wondalga Road/ Green Hills Access Road were closed overnight to ensure the safety of road users while recovery operations proceeded.
On the return to Gundagai at 10.30pm, the Gundagai crew were re-tasked to assist with reports for a truck fire in Tarcutta. En route, local RFS crews advised the fire had been extinguished and Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Gundagai and Wagga were no longer required.
The evening showcased the importance of strong teamwork between emergency services across the region.
At 8.30am on July 19, local emergency services were called to a truck accident on the Hume Highway, north of Coolac.
On arrival, firefighters located a truck that had left the roadway and had come to rest off the side of the highway.
Crews worked to render the scene safe and assist with traffic management while recovery operations were organised.
One northbound lane was closed for the duration of recovery operations.
At 4.30am on 17 July, Gundagai Fire Station’s tanker and crew were called to provide standby coverage at Yass 511’s Fire and Rescue Station while their crews attended a truck crash on the Hume Highway. More information about this incident in The Yass Valley Times.
At 11.20am on Wednesday, 22 July, another truck fire occurred on the Hume Highway past Keajura Road.
Southbound traffic was diverted onto the Sturt Highway and Tumbarumba Road to return to the highway, which added 20 minutes of extra travel time.
