Gundagai Swim Club kicked off the 2025/26 season last month with training sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays and club nights on Thursdays at Gundagai Pool.
Tom Gaskin from the Gundagai Swimming Club says the season has started strong.
“We started at the end of November and have had astrong start to the season with good numbers, plenty of numbers sign up and we are in to our training and the kids are enjoying it. We have a lot of new, younger faces this year. The swim meets have started, and we had 11 swimmers go up to Tumut recently and that was really good,” said Tom.
Gundagai was represented at the most recent Tumut Swim Meet at the end of November. There were 187 swimmers from 19 clubs from the region represented at this meet.
Clubs in attendance were Albury, Binalong, Boorowa, Canberra, Cootamundra, Corowa, Cruiz, Griffith, Gundagai, Harden, Junee, North Albury, Temora, The Rock, Tumbarumba, Tumut, Wagga, Yass, and Young.

“Next week is our last week with the lead up to Christmas and then we will be back around the 13th January, and we will keep pushing on with our stroke correction and trying to get their swim styles more correct and geared up for the school carnivals next year,” said Tom.
“Currently we have about 55 members, which is pretty decent, with ages ranging from 6 years old up to 14 and 15. We have had quite a few older ones stay on, so that is a good thing.”
For the remainder of the season the focus is on stroke correction and just improving overall swimming. “There will be a few meets in the new year that we will go to, for whoever wants too. We will also keep developing the swimmers and keep doing our club night every Thursday, which is always a fun night,” said Tom.

“Club night is where the kids race and put all their training in to practice and race to improve their own times, and they try to improve their times each time they race, and club night is a good way to gage where they are at and how they are going in that sense.”
The Swim season ends towards the end of March, and they welcome any new members.
“We are a club that is looking to develop the swimmers in all four strokes, and we are achieving that. Memberships are always open, so if anyone is looking to start and do a second half of the year membership, you are always welcome to come down, sign up and have a go.”
“The easiest way to get in touch with the club is through Facebook or email, or have a chat to Mitch and Ash at the pool and they will send you in the right direction,” said Tom.
