The Gundagai Rodeo and Campdraft Club are excited to be bringing the Rodeo back for 2025, after having to cancel last year’s event due to inclement weather.
The event will run on the Saturday 29 November at the Gundagai Showground, and things will kick off about 10am, with the main performance kicking off at about 4pm.
There will be food, live music and a bar available on the day too. The program will include all the usual events such as the barrel race, poddy rides, open bullride, novice bareback, steer ride, saddlebronc, team roping and steer wrestling, plus much more.
Dan Lindley, Gundagai Rodeo and Campdraft Club President said this year’s event will have a new addition to the program, an invitational mini bull ride, which is open to local 11-14 year old boys.
“This year the stock for the mini bull rides is coming from Tony and Savannah Kelly who are committee members, and that is our feature because we are trying to encourage a few more kids and juniors to get into the sport,” said Dan.
This year’s Rodeo will run to the same program it has previously.
“We have had a lot of early entries this year which is great and it looks like the sport of Rodeo is on its way back, which is great, and we would just love the crowd to come down” said Dan.
“We are hoping to get a lot of entries because we are the last rodeo of the points qualifying year for the national finals, so there will be some brilliant cowboys and cowgirls coming down to try for those later points to try and get higher up on the standings and the dollars,” said Dan.
“Competitors come from all over and we can expect to see participants from Tamworth, Hunter Valley, Victorians, Western New South Wales and right across New South Wales even down to local competitors.
“We are so appreciative of the donations from our sponsors, they have been carried over from last year too, but Gundagai is very generous in that way we are only a small town, but every time we ask they seem to deliver,” said Dan.
