Join the Gundagai Community Choir on Sunday November 9 for their annual ‘Music in the Afternoon’. At St Patrick’s Hall from 2 pm, the event will feature Gundagai Community Choir singing a variety of genres, as well as performances from guest artists Riley Lott and Verity Whittaker. Entry is $10 and includes a delicious afternoon tea provided by choir members and community members, with all proceeds going to CanAssist Gundagai.
Brenda Argaet who is the Choir Conductor says the event will be a fun event for the community.
“It will be a fun afternoon of music. We are going to be doing a variety of genres such as contemporary music, folk, jazz, African inspired stuff – a fair range of music from us,” said Brenda.
The Choir currently has 20 members, and they practice every week at Gundagai South Public School from 5.30-6.30 pm on Monday evenings and perform at a variety of events throughout the year.
“We have our concert, and we also usually go up to Uralba and residential care to perform throughout the school term,” said Brenda. “Once this concert is over, we will be getting straight in to rehearsing for our Christmas performances, and our big one will be Carols in the Park on 21 December.”
Last year’s concert raised funds for the choir to purchase new, modern song books to use at visits to Uralba Hostel.
“We got our new song books. I do sing-alongs quite frequently at Uralba and residential care, but now whenever I do sing-alongs, I put it out to the choir members, and a lot of them come along too, and we are using those books at those sing-alongs,” said Brenda.
Any one is welcome to join the choir, no experience or auditions required, just turn up to a practice.
