The annual Snake Gully Cup Fashions on the Field competition will once again be hotly contested on Friday 14 November, with organisers expecting an abundance of Spring colour and unique styling.
The four categories this year include Best Dressed Local, Best Dressed Visitor, Best Suited and Best Headwear. According to Fashions of the Field coordinator Renee Lindley, this year’s event will once again celebrate individual style and creativity.
“Our judges will expect head-to-toe styling across every category; however, they will be looking for uniqueness and fashion with an edge,” said Renee.
The Best Dressed Local category is open to those who reside within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council or Snowy Valleys Council. Best Dressed Visitor will be open to anyone who resides outside these council areas.
“In the Best Dressed categories, the key focus for judges will be head-to-toe grooming and a look that stands out from the crowd – every aspect, from the hair, to the clothing, to the millinery, to the accessories, must all complement each other,” said Renee. “With this year’s Spring fashion colour palette ranging from soft pastels, to earthy neutrals, to bold greens, reds and oranges, there’s really no better place to show your individual style and wear what you love.”
The Best Suited category is again open to entrants, both locally and from afar. The suit must consist of at least two coordinated pieces – either a jacket and pants or jacket and skirt. Headwear is essential.
“Structured suiting is still very popular, with many women preferring a pant suit over a dress for race day. We are also seeing a lot of men accessorising their suits with brooches, pocket squares and matching ties, so this category is going to be a tough one for the judges,” said Renee.
“Those entering the Best Headwear category need a statement headpiece. Complementary styling is what the judges will be looking for, so the headpiece must be carefully considered in the overall styling. ‘Most importantly – and this applies to all categories – dress not only for the season, but also for comfort and confidence,” says Renee.
“If you love what you’re wearing and it fits you well, then you are going to stand out and have a lot more fun. “Judges and prize sponsors are currently being confirmed and will be announced soon,” said Renee. Entrants can nominate themselves on the day with an on-course facility set up near the main stage, specifically for Fashions on the Field entrants. Judging will commence after Race 3.
