The Gundagai Veterans Golf group hosted a very successful Spring tournament over two days on Monday, 1st and Tuesday, 2nd September. Participating players (68 on Monday and 55 on Tuesday) were from 12 golf clubs from the Riverina and beyond, including some coastal towns.
The Gundagai Vets Golf committee is most grateful to the St George’s Basin group, with 22 representatives playing.
The Sponsorship from Lotts Family Hotel and Elders, Gundagai, was much appreciated by the committee, as were the donations of prizes, cakes and slices and the volunteer work from veteran golfers and family members, including Jan Freestone, Rex Smith and Col Gillies, who worked on the BBQ.
Appreciation was also extended to the golf staff, with the course presented in wonderful condition, particularly considering the recent wet weather.
Visiting golfers praised the tournament and the course and expressed appreciation for the hospitality provided. Scones with jam and cream before play, the BBQ lunch and the home-cooked slices and cakes, were certainly a ‘big hit’!
Some visiting golfers played bowls on the Monday evening, enjoying the hospitality of local bowlers.

The Gundagai Vets Golf group played a regular weekly competition on Tuesday, 9th September, playing on the Front 9 holes in a Stableford event. Nick Keatinge was victorious in a tight contest, from Col Gillies in 2nd place on a countback from Chris Annetts. Jeff Ross had a double victory with a ‘Nearest the Pin’ shot on the 9th hole and the least number of putts over the 9 holes.
Extra competition winners were Chris Annetts and Nancy Smith. There will be no regular Vets Golf in Gundagai on Tuesday 16th September due to course maintenance, so will resume on Tuesday 23rd September at 9:30am.
