On Monday night, Gundagai Fire and Rescue held an awards and recognition night and welcomed three special guests to Gundagai Station for a specially arranged drill night, held in recognition of the time and dedication the firefighters give to the Gundagai community and to the people of NSW.
Andrew Brock from Gundagai Fire and Rescue said the event was held to recognise the dedication and commitment of the team. “We had been trying to get together for quite some time to recognise the firefighters in Gundagai. We are one of the stations that have a long serving team in place, and it is just trying to get all your Commanders together to be able to present the awards, it has a bit more of a special meaning than just the Captain or myself handing it out to the crew. So, we organised a bit of a training session, with a BBQ and an awards ceremony.”
“The team give a lot of their time for the community, and it is nice to be able to recognise that achievement from time to time, and the dedication that they show.”
“A special mention goes to retired Deputy Captain Phill Smith, who was presented with a framed letter from the Commissioner, honouring his 27 years of service,” Andrew said.

• FF Paul S. – FRNSW Long Service Good Conduct Medal, 1st Clasp (20 years)
• EK John B. – National Medal of Service (15 years)
• EK Ian C. – 15-Year Epaulettes + National Emergency Medal (2019/2020 Bushfires)
• FF Brad Smith – FRNSW Long Service Good Conduct Medal (10 years)
• FF Craig H. – 5-Year Epaulettes
• FF Campbell S. – 5-Year Epaulettes Awarded but unable to attend:
• DC Chris R. – FRNSW Long Service Good Conduct Medal (10 years) + National Emergency Medal (2019/2020 Bushfires)
• FF Adam T. – FRNSW Long Service Good Conduct Medal, 1st Clasp (20 years)
• FF Jake S. – FRNSW Long Service Good Conduct Medal (10 years) + National Emergency Medal (2019/2020 Bushfires)
“A huge congratulations to all our members who were recognised on Monday. Your service and sacrifice make a real difference every day for Gundagai and beyond. Special thanks to Area Commander Hirst, Zone Commander Campbell, and Duty Commander Murphy for joining us and presenting the medals on this important occasion,” Andrew said.
“We weren’t aware at the time that we also have some other past members who would be receiving awards, so I will make contact with them separately,” said Andrew.
