The Gundagai Tigers were outstanding on Sunday afternoon in a 56-10 thrashing over the winless Wagga Brothers.
It looked like it was going to be an ugly and gory afternoon from the jump for the Brothers, who conceded almost instantly when the Tigers, through five-eighth Will Herring opened the scoring whilst the opening siren was still echoing around Geotech stadium.
Jack Elphick was next to etch his name on the scoring sheet, getting his first of two, followed by recruit Gabriel Gul, who also got two tries. Toby Dasey continued his hot form in Tigers colours whilst Meli Drau got his first of what ended up being a hat-trick of tries.
Wagga to their credit tried hard as they have throughout the most of the season, but ultimately it was in vain against a Tigers’ side with Group 9 glory on the mind.
Coach Aaron Gorrell was satisfied, but wanted to see more from his team.
“They weren’t as bad as they maybe look on the table, we got through our sets, played our footy and got the points,” Gorrell said.
“We played direct and ran hard which we’ve lacked the past few weeks. We’re still a work in progress we need to keep improving.
“We’ve got a clean bill of health for the most part which is always good.”
After the bye the Tigers will play the South City Bulls who are desperate to get a win after another loss this week to Bulldogs.
“South City have some handy players, we won’t take them lightly, we will train Tuesday then have a freshen up and come in with a must win attitude.
“It was good to see Royce Tout back from his knee reconstruction, he will be a big part of any success we have this season he’s a quality player. Jack Elphick was probably our best on the ground today.
“It was a pretty new side compared to the one I coached, they tried all game.
“Our completions are still a problem, if you give the ball away to any side the game is tough to win.”
