Four Titles in a Row

Back: Ben Lyall, Shaun Smith, Chase Bullock, Riley Bethune, Braith Winner and Mitch Goodsall. Front: Jace Wilson, Jaylen Bell, Aidan Thomas, Cody Bell, and Kaidan Bell.

On March 5 at Owen Vincent Oval the Gundagai Touch Association held their Grand Finals with the Hornets taking out the Mens’ A Grade after a match against the Goats.

The Hornets now lay claim to four titles in a row. Skeersy’s Crew won Womens’ A Grade against Wi-Sky. Tomahawks won Mens’ B grade against the Sloths while Puffin Ponies beat Patz Bratz for the B Grade women’s title. Player Tarron Makeham spoke to the Gundagai Times about the day and how it went.

“The day was really good to see. There was A and B Grade in men’s and women’s and C Grade in men’s. Things were up on last year, which was really good. All the games were played in the right spirit. “I was in the B Grade grand final and it was one of the more fun games that we played all year,” he said. “It was another good season, the Association ran really well and it’s in good hands. As someone who was the President, it is always good to see new people coming on board. I really can’t complain as it was another good year.

Mitch Goodall.

“This year was a new award for each team with most consistent which I thought was nice to recognise people who were playing well all season on top of the best and fairest in men’s and women’s and the best rookie of the year in the juniors.

“Cody Bell got the men’s best and fairest as he was untouchable at times. Archie McDonald got the boy’s rookie of the year. It was his first season in the seniors and he played really well for the whole year.

“Congratulations to everyone who got an award and hopefully they all turn up again next year and we can get more teams again.

“In terms of players, the numbers were up. It always would be nice to see more people coming to watch, plus there’s the younger players bringing mums and dads that take them to and from games.

“There aren’t the same amount of spectators that you would get for the Tigers home games, but grand final night usually does bring a bit of a crowd, which is always good to see. ”
